One of the benefits of the proliferation of the iPod is that various respectable institutions are now turning to podcasting as a method for the spread of information. These podcasts are either in RSS form suitable for iTunes or other portable media player software or are mp3 downloads which you can manually copy to your music device. Even if you don’t have a music device, the RSS feeds are just XML tables with links to the mp3 files which can be easily processed for download. Here are some annotated sources of educational podcasts for your commute, workout at the gym, or for subliminal learning while you sleep:

PSU’s Podcast Central - A limited number of podcasts available. Mineral Science probably has the most scientific content.

Podcasts at MIT - Also a small number of lecture podcasts. You can also check out the Open Courseware and search for mp3 to download lectures. They have some interesting mp3 lectures on nano-materials.

Spitzer Space Telescope - This is podcast from Caltech for the astro-nerd. Fairly frequent podcasts as far as academia goes that discuss deep space observation.

UMich News Service - Weekly podcasts on various topics in science, art and society.

UMich Health System - Weekly podcasts dealing with health and medecine.

Johns Hopkins Medical - Weekly podcasts dealing with medical news.

Johns Hopkins University - Podcasts as supplements to classes.

webcast.berkeley - Berkeley class lectures on a wide range of topic.

Knowledge @ Wharton - Business/finance related podcasts from the UPenn school.

IBM developerWorks podcasts - Bi-weekly podcasts, generally high level interviews.

TI Video360 podcast - Video (and audio) podcasts from Texas Instruments, hopefully will pick up the pace soon.

If you know any other good podcasts, please post comments.
